Educational applications

Digital cartography based on community participation allows us to analyse the reality of a given territory, sharing a whole series of historical, geographical, economic and other kinds of knowledge on a horizontal level. Mapping Asturias is conceived to diffuse and publicise the potential of this kind of mapping, based on social networks or web 2.0, on an educational and social level.

The educational aspects of the project are being jointly developed with secondary school teachers and representatives from associations in order to publicise the tool among potential users. We will reach out to the public with presentations, workshops and chats which, in the case of school students, will be guided by their teachers for a proper analysis and debate on the reality shown.

There are many examples of collective and educational projects that “map” the flora of a neighbourhood, the associative resources of a city or oral tradition. In the educational project we are working to draw up a guide with practical exercises for students which can be used in various departments at schools and other educational centres.
